Ongoing – The Immigrant Welcome Centre connects newcomers with established Canadians. We are looking for families who want to make new friends. The Family Match program will assist recently arrived families in getting to know their new home. Many immigrant families feel isolated in their new country. They have the stress of raising children in a place where they don’t know the systems and they often have language barriers. As a volunteer, we will provide you with training and ongoing support so that you can share your life experiences and become a mentor/friend to new Canadians. To become part of the Family Match program, you will need to be available for 2 hours each week for a 3 month period. Once you are matched with a new family, you will spend some time helping them to understand their new country and take part in simple activities in the community. A Ministry of Justice Security Check is required and is paid for by the Ministry of Justice.
