Volunteer Nanaimo is a collective of compassionate, generous, thoughtful people who have joined together to offer help, support and mentorship to our community through Volunteering.

We are a non-profit charity that has operated and delivered services for the benefit of the community since 1979.

We play a key role in the development of volunteerism in the Nanaimo region. With over 800 non-profit and community based organizations we connect thousands of individuals with important volunteer opportunities in their community.

In addition we offer the following programs and services:

Community Volunteer Income Tax Program – preparing taxes for low income clients in Nanaimo and the surrounding areas, generally by appointment throughout the year excepting December – we also help with applications for GIS, SAFER, CPP or anything else that comes along that seniors need help in/along the “forms scenerios”.

Watchdog Computer Services– our computer tech program – our volunteers receive, repair, refurbish and reload donated computers, laptops, phones, tablets, some printers and these are sent out into the community (by donation if possible to help with costs of any purchased parts).

YouthNetwork/Youth 2020 Can – two youth programs being run through VN – YouthNetwork 11 – 17 yr olds, YouthCan 15-29 yr olds.

Angel Network – year round assistance for community through our Angel Crafters (knitters, sewers, quilters, toymakers, etc), Christmas Angels (matching community members to those in need), Helping Hands which assists not only seniors, but clients who are challenged and in need of some minor assistance on a one-off basis.

Computer On Site – we have a designated computer for anyone to book and use to download forms, complete applications, research.

Autism Library – we host the Autism Library for the Autism Society of Central Vancouver Island.

Hand in Hand Intergenerational Storytelling program – our New Horizons grant funded program.

Silver Adventures Café – This seniors’ program, funded by New Horizons, offers weekly activities and an opportunity for seniors to make connections with other seniors.  Activities include crafts, music, bingo, games, guest speakers, service projects and more.
